TexasStateSchedulePhoto SAN MARCOS – Texas State head coach Ty Harrington released the 2010 Bobcat baseball schedule Thursday afternoon and the loaded slate includes 26 home games at Bobcat Field and meetings with four teams that competed in the 2009 NCAA Championship Tournament.

"Our fans have grown accustomed to seeing the Texas State baseball program compete in an exciting schedule against challenging teams," said Harrington. "I know that this season will rank very close to one of the top schedules with the level of competition we have set for 2010."

Texas State opens the season Feb. 19 with a three-game series at Houston followed by a Feb. 23 meeting at Rice. The Bobcats remain on the road to compete in the Baylor Bears Tournament Feb. 26-28, featuring Big 12 contenders Baylor and Texas A&M, along with Western Kentucky.

Last season, the Bobcats went 2-1 against the Bears, including back-to-back wins at Ferrell Field. Texas State faces Baylor three times in 2010, traveling back to Waco April 6 and hosting Baylor April 21.

Competition against the Big 12 remains steady throughout the season as Texas State travels to Texas twice in 2010, visiting the Longhorns Mar. 9 and April 13.

The Bobcats anticipated home opener is set for Mar. 3 against the Rice Owls. This will mark the 53rd meeting between the two schools and Texas State is coming off a 4-1 victory over the then-ranked No. 2 Owls.

Following the decision, Texas State will open Southland Conference action against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Mar. 5-7. The Bobcats host Lamar (Mar. 26-28), Central Arkansas (Apr. 9-11), Northwestern State (Apr. 23) and UT Arlington (May 20-22) during league action, and face a tough SLC travel schedule heading to Sam Houston State (Mar. 19-21), Stephen F. Austin (Apr. 1-3), Southeastern Louisiana (A[r/ 16-18), McNeese State (

Sam Houston State and Southeastern Louisiana finished No.2 and No. 3 behind Texas State in the Southland standings in 2009. The Bearkats slipped past the Bobcat in postseason action and made an appearance in the Houston Regional of the NCAA Championships.

At Bobcat Field, Texas State will also welcome Penn State (Mar. 12-14), Houston Baptist (Apr. 27) and Prairie View A&M (May 18). Texas A&M will make its first trip to San Marcos since 2000 on March 30, and the Bobcats will also face TCU in a home-and-away series.

"Our home schedule is one of the most aggressive schedules we have put together at Texas State," added Harrington. "I know this season our fans will pleased with the high caliber teams that will play at Bobcat Field."

Texas State’s annual I-35 Maroon vs. Orange Rivalry game will open April 30 in San Marcos for a pair of games and close out in San Antonio May 2.

The Southland Conference Championship Tournament returns to Whataburger Field. Dates are set for may 26-30 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
