TrevorBauerUCLA LOS ANGELES – Sophomore right-hander Trevor Bauer (2-0) struck out five batters in four scoreless frames, allowing one hit and two walks, to lead the Blue Team past the Gold Team, 5-0, in a three-game sweep of the Blue-Gold World Series at Steele Field at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Friday evening (seven innings).

Bauer faced three batters over the minimum through four innings. The native of Valencia, Calif., worked out of a one-out jam with runners in scoring position in the bottom of the fourth, recording a strikeout and inducing a groundout to finish his final fall outing. Bauer also picked up the victory for the Blue Team in Game 1 on Monday.

Sophomore Gerrit Cole notched his first save of the series, recording three strikeouts in a scoreless seventh inning.

A balanced offensive attack helped the Blue Team earn the World Series sweep. Junior Brett Krill, sophomore Tyler Rahmatulla and freshman Beau Amaral each went 2-for-3. Junior Marc Navarro and freshman Cody Regis both recorded two RBI.

The Blue Team broke open the contest with a five-run fourth inning. With two runners in scoring position, Navarro lined a two-RBI double to left-center field. After stealing third base, Navarro scored on a single by Krill through the left side of the infield. Consecutive walks issued to freshmen Cody Keefer and Matt Mosher loaded the bases. A double down the left-field line by Regis scored Krill and Keefer, making the score 5-0.

Sophomore Erik Goeddel (0-1) absorbed the loss, allowing four runs and four hits in 1.1 innings of relief.

Eight UCLA pitchers (four on each intersquad team) struck out a combined 17 batters. Gold Team starter Dan Klein notched four strikeouts in two scoreless innings. Jordan Haver (Gold Team) notched three strikeouts in 2.2 innings of relief.
