UCRiversideSchedulePic The UC Riverside 2010 baseball schedule, released today by Head Coach Doug Smith, continues the Highlanders tradition of playing one of the most difficult schedules in the nation (see chart below). It features 13 games against 2009 NCAA Tournament participants including a three-game home series to open Big West Conference play against Cal Poly (Apr. 1-3).

Highlanders fans will have their first opportunity to see the 2010 squad in action on Feb. 13 at the Riverside Sports Complex for the annual UCR Alumni Game. The regular season gets underway later that week with a three-game series against BYU (Apr. 19-20).

Other NCAA Tournament teams on the Highlanders’ schedule include road meetings with Cal State Fullerton (May 7-9) and UC Irvine (May 21-23), as well as a single-game home and away meeting with San Diego State (at San Diego Feb. 23; at Riverside, May 2). UCR will also face Oregon State (Mar. 4) and Arizona State (Mar. 6) as part of an ASU Invitational in Surprise, AZ. The Invitational will also include games for the Highlanders against Florida International (Mar. 5) and Utah Valley (Mar. 7).

UC Riverside also has single-game home and away meetings against traditional NCAA powerhouse UCLA (at Los Angeles, May 9; at Riverside, Apr. 13) and San Diego (at San Diego, Mar. 23; at Riverside, Apr. 20), as well as a rather unusual four-game series with Loyola Marymount that will see the Highlanders play one game at Loyola Marymount on Feb. 26, a double header at UCR on Feb. 27 and another road game at LMU on Feb. 28.

Big West play begins on April 1 with the aforementioned three-game home series against Cal Poly. Other home conference opponents are Long Beach State (Apr. 16-18), Cal State Northridge (May 14-16) and the regular-season ending series against UC Davis (May 28-30).
