MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine Baseball’s annual fall tradition – the Blue and Orange World Series – begins Thursday at Eddy D. Field Stadium at 1:15 p.m. The three-game set marks the end of the Waves’ fall season, which began back in September will individual workouts followed by October’s team practices and intrasquads.
Game’s two and three will take place Saturday and Sunday with an approximate start time of 1 p.m.
Pepperdine returns 18 letterwinners from a season ago, including six position players and four starting pitchers. The Waves also have brought in six returning redshirts and 16 newcomers, three of which are transfers.
This weekend’s format is a bit unorthodox compared to year’s past. Each position player will be part of the starting lineup, meaning that the traditional nine-man lineup card could be stretched out to 11 or more, and all pitchers will be limited to 30 pitches an inning.
The coaches also have decided to implement roll-over innings. For example, if a pitcher can’t get out of a particular inning in 30 pitches or less, they’ll pick up right where they left off following the next half inning.
Pepperdine’s Orange Team is managed by senior Robert Dickmann (Woodland Hills, Calif./Notre Dame HS) and sophomore Nate Johnson (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo HS). Redshirt sophomore Cole Cook (Los Angeles, Calif./Palisades Charter HS) and senior Trent Diedrich (Fresno, Calif./Bullard HS) are skippers for the Pepperdine Blue squad.
