Mississippi State to hold Fall Series starting on Wednesday

JohnCohen STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Mississippi State baseball team puts the finishing touches on its 2009 fall practices with the 2009 Maroon-White World Series over the next week at Dudy Noble Field. The five-game series will run November 11-17, with games on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday.

Second-year Bulldog skipper John Cohen and the MSU coaching staff will divide the squad for the Maroon-White World Series, set to begin Wednesday, Nov. 11 with a 3:30 p.m. game. Game times are also set for 3:30 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. Saturday, 2:30 p.m. Sunday and 4 p.m. Tuesday in the series finale.

A pair of rookie hurlers are set to open on the mound in Wednesday’s series-opener. Freshman southpaw Luke Bole from Hartselle, Ala., will be matched with righty Chris Stratton from Tupelo, Miss.

The games are open to the public with no charge for admission.

MSU’s fall roster includes 21 newcomers and 17 returning letterman from last year’s 25-29 edition. Among the returnees are senior first baseman Connor Powers, an 11th-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers who paced the club with 19 home runs and 63 RBI, and sophomore left-hander Nick Routt, who earned freshman all-America and All-SEC honors after leading the Bulldogs with 87 strikeouts, 86.2 innings pitched, 13 games started and four complete games.
