MONROE, La. – The ULM baseball team kicked off its annual Hackers Classic week with the release of the rosters for the Maroon & Gold Blood Series on Saturday. The teams play a best-of-five series beginning Monday evening with the losing team of the series donating blood to an area blood bank.
The teams will play at 6 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with the final game of the series scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m. All five games will be played even if the series has already been decided.
Don Williams will get the opening night start for the Maroon Team while the Gold Team will counter with Josh Miller. Williams posted a 6-2 record with a 5.74 ERA last season and earned three Louisiana Pitcher of the Week honors. Miller appeared in 19 games last season – 18 out of the bullpen – and posted a 1-2 record with a 6.64 ERA.
The series will take a couple days off for the Hackers Classic social and golf tournament on Friday and Saturday. The social begins at 6 p.m. on Friday and will feature an auction at the Anna Gray Noe Alumni Center overlooking Bayou DeSiard on Warhawk Way.
This year’s golf tournament will be a three-man scramble at Frenchman’s Bend Country Club beginning Saturday at 9 a.m. Teams will be provided a cart, lunch, snacks, soda, water and a free gift.
The tournament will be divided into two flights, with the top three finishers of each flight winning gift certificates to the Frenchman’s Bend Pro Shop. Prizes will also be awarded for the closest to the pin, long drive and accuracy drive on specific holes on the course.
Registration is only $150 per individual or $450 per team. Hole sponsorships are also available for $200 and all proceeds go to the ULM baseball program. For more information or to register, contact Cory Barton at 318-342-5396 or 318-801-0912.
