The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the list today with number 74 in our countdown with Cal-State Fullerton junior RHP Daniel Renken. He is a 6’4 195 pound righty out of Orange Lutheran High School and from Cypress California. He was a three year letter winner for head coach Mike Grahovac with a career record of 17-7 including an impressive senior season where he went 8-3 with a 1.95 ERA as he was named All-Orange County. The Colorado Rockies selected him in the 35th round in 2007 but were unable to come to terms with him.
He made the trip to Cal-State Fullerton to continue his baseball career. In his freshman season, he went 5-5 with a 4.11 ERA in 16 appearances (14 starts). Collegiate Baseball named him a First-Team Freshman All-American while Rivals named him a Second-Team All-American. Renken’s real breakout season came in 2009 which saw him go 11-3 with a 2.69 ERA serving as the number 1 weekend starter last season. He struck out 103 batters in his 123.2 innings of work. He held opponents to a .206 batting average against.
