TexasAMCCFallSeries The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team will cap a productive fall season of workouts with the Islander Fall World Series this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Chapman Field. Thursday’s game begins at 3 p.m., Friday’s contest is at 2 p.m. and Saturday is at noon.

"It has been an overly competitive fall," said Islander head coach Scott Malone. "For a lack of a better word or phrase, the series is the cherry on top. It a chance for us to see guys compete for that chance to start, battle for a roster, etc.

"The best players tend to jump out to you in these situations. The series is a chance for the coaching staff and me to sit back and see what things we are doing well and what we need to work on in the offseason. It will give us a focus for the spring."

One area of intrigue for Malone is the starting pitching matchups for each day.

"The first day is going to be the top incumbent Brandon Orr of the black team going against Marc Damon, who has been the top newcomer on the mound this fall," said the coach. "On Friday, our two best lefties face off in Jake Liedka and Roy Ferdin, but they go about their success in different ways. Liedka is a hard thrower who tries to strike hitters out, while Ferdin is much more of a control pitcher.

"In the finale, it will be an older pitcher in Andrew Toppert against a young pitcher in Trevor Foss. Toppert is a more established pitcher, while Foss is someone we brought in a year ago to be part of the foundation. He is the future, but we don’t know if it will be this season or next."
