ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.–The University of New Mexico baseball team will host its annual Cherry-Silver Series this Tuesday through Saturday at Lobo Field. The Lobos will play a five game series with each game lasting seven innings. There is a lot at stake for Lobos on both sides as the culmination of the series will determine the final roster for the 2010 season. Head coach Ray Birmingham will closely observe the action and pick the squad that will make a run at the 2010 Mountain West Conference Championship.
"I want this series to be serious," said Birmingham. "I want it to be highly competitive and I want the players to feel like everything is at stake. This is a good way to end fall workouts and it will be the final decision maker for the 35-man roster. There is a lot of competition at every position. This year’s squad has a lot of talent. We have a young team but I’m very excited about this season and this team."
Games one and three will be played at 2:30 p.m. MT on Tuesday and Thursday respectively. Games two and four will be played at 2 p.m. MT on Wednesday and Friday. The series finale will be played on Saturday at noon
