JoshSpenceASU There is a lot of news going on with the Arizona State baseball program with the loss of Mike Leake to MLB and they continue to rebuild the offense after the run to the CWS in 2009. Josh Spence should head up the rotation again as the Aussie came back for his senior season after being selected in the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the third round. You can check out some of the news below. Special thanks to Jeff Metcalfe of AZCentral.com for some of the information.

  • Riccio Torrez and Drew Maggi are battling for the job at third base.
  • Freshman Deven Marrero is expected to start at shortstop.
  • Zack McPhee is now hitting from both sides of the plate and expected to start at second base.
  • Freshman Andrew Alpin is the front runner for the center field position.
  • Johnny Ruetigger or Drew Maggi is expected to start in left field.
  • Matt Newman should stay in right field
  • The catching position is up in the air between Jordan Swagerty, Austin Barnes, and Xorge Castillo.
  • Brandon Magee, Swagerty, Zach Wilson, and Jimmy Patterson are all competing for the Designated Hitter position.
  • The expected starting rotation is Josh Spence, Seth Blair, and Mitchell Lambson.
  • The closer position is still up in the air with Swagerty being the leader right now.
