RUSTON–Louisiana Tech’s baseball seniors gathered at head coach Wade Simoneaux’s house Saturday night and held the team’s annual draft for the Fall World Series which is set to begin Friday, Oct. 30 at 6:00 p.m. at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
After the team’s seniors were served a full meal of baked potatoes, beans, garlic bread and steaks by Simoneaux; the seniors were split into two teams of four seniors a piece. On one side there was John Anderson, Drew Thomas, Jonathan Mire and Clint Stubbs while on the other team was Clay Alexander, Jamey Bradshaw, Alex Richard and Devon Dageford.
In order to decide such factors as what jersey color each team would wear and which team would get the first overall pick or home field advantage there were two coin flips. On the first coin flip Alexander made the correct call with tails and the team chose to wear white. On another tails call Alexander won again and the white team (Alexander, Bradshaw, Richard and Dageford) elected to pick first giving the blue team (Anderson, Thomas, Mire and Stubbs) home field advantage.
Following the draft the official schedule was set and the rules were made clear to each team.
Game one will be Friday (Oct. 30) at 6:00 p.m. followed by game two on Saturday (Oct. 31) afternoon at 3:00 p.m. In order to rest pitchers there will be two days of rest before game three and four on Tuesday (Nov. 3) and Wednesday (Nov. 4), each at 6:00 p.m. Again there will be two days of rest before game five on Saturday (Nov. 7) at 3:00 p.m. The final two games of the series will both be played at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 10) and Wednesday (Nov. 11).
All seven games will be played regardless of who wins and if there is a rainout the games will be made-up by a double-header of two seven inning games.
The pitching limits to save pitcher’s arms will be if a pitcher throws in-between one and 19 pitches then he will not be required to have a day of rest before pitching against. Pitchers throwing between 20 and 39 pitches will be required to have one day of rest while those throwing 40 to 59 pitchers will need to have two days of rest before throwing again. Pitchers throwing 60 to 70 pitches will have to take three days of rest.
The winning team will have bragging rights all season to go along with eating first and eating steaks while the losing team will have all field duties and will be eating beans.
