NEW ORLEANS – Athletic directors across the nation would probably prefer that their head baseball coaches did not end up behind bars, but in the case of University of New Orleans head coach Bruce Peddie on Thursday afternoon, Privateer interim athletic director Mike Bujol did not mind.
The first-year UNO skipper was one of several participants who were jailed in the university quad as part of an event sponsored by the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority entitled, "Breast Cancer Behind Bars".
One of many campus events held in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Peddie was given a prison suit and remained behind bars until he was able to raise bail by getting donations from friends, family and Privateer supporters.
The donations that were raised to free Peddie and the other participants were directed to the ZTA Foundation, which promotes breast cancer awareness, education, prevention and early detection.
In addition to Peddie’s participation, members of the men’s basketball squad raised funds to donate to the ZTA Foundation’s efforts.
