Florida to hold scrimmage on Friday

GatorScrimmage The University of Florida baseball team will host an Orange & Blue Scrimmage on Friday, Oct. 16, at McKethan Stadium starting at 3:45 p.m. This event will give fans a sneak peek of head coach Kevin O’Sullivan’s squad in action and is part of Homecoming Weekend on campus leading up to Gator Growl 2009: Legends of The Swamp that begins at 7 p.m. in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Florida returns 20 letterwinners, including 10 pitchers and five players who saw the majority of time at their position last season and boasts the nation’s top incoming class. The Gators return a solid nucleus that includes two-time first-team All-SEC infielder Josh Adams (Jacksonville, Fla.), two-time SEC All-Defensive Team member center fielder Matt den Dekker (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), 2009 SEC Co-Freshman of the Year and NCBWA Freshman Hitter of the Year first baseman Preston Tucker (Tampa, Fla.), SEC All-Tourney and NCAA Gainesville Regional All-Tourney choice outfielder Jonathan Pigott (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and the sophomore quintet of pitchers Anthony DeSclafani (Freehold, N.J.), Greg Larson (Longwood, Fla.), Nick Maronde (Lexington, Ky.), Alex Panteliodis (Tampa, Fla.) and Tommy Toledo (Tampa, Fla.).

The Gators will begin their 2010 campaign next February with a three-game series against USF at McKethan Stadium. Florida was 42-22 overall and claimed the Southeastern Conference’s Eastern Division title on its way to a berth in the 2009 NCAA Gainesville Super Regional.
