DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Davis baseball team has announced the 2010 schedule which boasts 15 games against teams who qualified for the NCAA Tournament, including 2008 national champion Fresno State and a home series against Big West Conference powerhouse UC Irvine.
"It is a good schedule," said head coach Rex Peters. "The Big West is a quality conference that is typically strong top to bottom and could have as many as four teams in the top 30 pre-season polls. Our non-conference schedule will be highlighted by home and road contests against Pac-10 rivals Stanford and Cal, along with a challenging three-game road series at national power Fresno State."
The Aggies open their season Feb. 19 with a three-game home series against Utah, who were the 2009 Mountain West Conference champions and reached the NCAA Baseball Championship for the firrst time since 1960.
UC Davis travels to nearby Cal Feb. 25 before returning to Dobbins Stadium for five straight games against BYU, Nevada and Stanford. The Cardinal and the Aggies met in Davis last year with Stanford coming away with the 5-2 win. UC Davis and Sacramento State will then renew their Causeway Cup rivalry with a three-game series starting March 5.
The Aggies will participate in a four-game tournament hosted by San Jose State Mar. 11-14 and will face Air Force, Southern Illinois, Santa Clara and San Jose State.
The team heads to Fresno State Mar. 26-28 to face the Bulldogs in a three-game series. Last year, UC Davis topped Fresno State 11-3 in Davis before falling 4-2 in Fresno.
Big West Conference play begins with a trip south as UC Davis visits Cal State Fullerton April 1-3. In 2009, the Titans were the No. 2 national seed in the Fullerton regional and advanced to the College World Series. League play continues when the Aggies host Long Beach State beginning April 9. The Dirtbags swept the Aggies last year in Long Beach.
UC Davis continues the homestand with a break in conference action and will face San Francisco April 13. A rematch with San Jose State is set up for April 14 before the team heads to Cal State Bakersfield April 16-18. The Aggies return to Big West action when UC Irvine, the No. 6 national seed in last year’s Irvine Regional, visits Dobbins Stadium April 23 for a three-game matchup.
The Aggies host their final home series against Cal Poly May 14-16.
UC Davis will conclude the season at UC Riverside May 28-30.
