BEAUMONT – Lamar University will play a 56-game baseball schedule next spring highlighted by visits to Vincent-Beck Stadium by perennially-strong Rice University, Penn State and the University of Houston.
The Cardinals will open their 38-game home slate and the season with a three-game series against the University of Maine on Feb. 19-21. They will then go on the road to face Rice on Feb. 24, and the Owls, who narrowly missed qualifying for the 2009 College World Series when they lost to host LSU in a Super Regional, will come to Beaumont for a rematch on March 30.
Penn State and Lamar will clash on the diamond twice during the three-day, four-team 2010 YMBL Cardinal Classic on March 5-7. Dallas Baptist and McNeese State will be the tournament’s other participants.
Lamar and Houston will renew their annual home-and-home series with an April 21 game in Vincent-Beck Stadium, and the Cardinals will travel to Houston’s Cougar Field for an April 28 game.
Coach Jim Gilligan’s Cardinals, who went 38-22 last season and advanced to the semifinal round of the Southland Conference Tournament, will open their 33-game league slate with a three-game series at Nicholls State on March 12-14. The Cardinals’ first SLC home series will be March 19-21, vs. Central Arkansas.
If the Cardinals can again finish in the top eight of the 12-team league, they will return to Corpus Christi’s Whattaburger Field for the 2010 SLC Tournament to be played on May 26-29. The tournament winner will earn the SLC’s automatic berth to the 2010 NCAA Tournament.

That’s funny……..Maine is also scheduled to open up against Michigan in Lubbock, TX on Feb.19 & 20.
Maine is NOT in Lubbock on those days according to the Texas Tech schedule.
Nice catch as I just posted the press release from Lamar Media Relations
I see that. Mystery solved! Michigan needs to get their schedule corrected.
