ColumbiaBaseballField NEW YORK – As Major League Baseball’s playoff season is just beginning, Columbia’s own fall season is winding down and the Lions are looking ahead to the spring, when they will begin the 2010 season on March 5 in Las Vegas against UNLV.

The Lions will take on UNLV in a four-game series on the season’s opening weekend, followed by their annual spring break trip.  This year, the Lions will head south.  First up will be a three-game set at Richmond from March 12-14, a single game at Virginia Tech and a two-game series at Appalachian State.

Columbia will close out its trip with four games March 18-21 at Winthrop’s Coca-Cola Classic against the hosts, Kent State and Penn State, with the fourth game to be determined based on the tournament’s outcome.

After the spring break trip, Columbia will return home to New York for a game at St. John’s, followed by its home opener, a four-game weekend series with Bucknell on March 27 and 28 at Robertson Field.

After a midweek matchup at Monmouth, the Lions open Ivy League play at home vs. Yale on April 3, one of nine home dates (17 games) on the calendar for Columbia.

In other Ivy League action in 2010, the Lions will host Brown on April 4, Princeton for a four-game set on April 17-18 and Penn in the regular season finale on May 1.  Columbia will travel to Dartmouth and Harvard on April 10-11, to Cornell for a four-game series on April 24-25 and to Penn on April 30.
