Head Coach Mark Johnson has released the 2010 slate for his Sam Houston State Bearkats. After winning the Southland Conference Tournament in 2009, the Bearkats look to continue their winning ways this season. The team will open the campaign on the road against in-state foe TCU (Feb. 19-21). After returning from Fort Worth, Sam Houston State will host Prairie View A&M (Feb. 23), Utah (Feb. 26-28), and Texas Southern (March 2) as well as the Hillcrest Invitational Tournament (March 5-7) in which Creighton and Northern Colorado will take part.
The following weekend the Bearkats will open Southland Conference play on the road at UT-Arlington (March 12-14). SHSU will also hit the road for conference series at UTSA (March 26-28), Northwestern State (April 1-3), Lamar (April 16-18), Southeastern Louisiana (May 7-9), and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (May 20-22). The Bearkats will play home conference series with McNeese State (April 9-11), Nicholls State (April 23-25), Stephen F. Austin (April 30-May 2), and Central Arkansas (May 14-16).
Notable non-conference mid-week games for the Bearkats include contests games against Dallas Baptist (March 30) and Texas A&M (May 4), a road game at Big 12 foe Baylor (April 20), and home-and-home games with Rice (March 9 & April 13) and Houston (April 6 & 27).
2010 Sam Houston State Schedule
The Utah Valley Wolverines have also released their 2010 schedule. The team will play thirty two games away from home this season, including sixteen Great West Conference contests. The Wolverines will begin the 2010 season with an eleven game road trip as they take visit Arizona (Feb. 19-21), Southern Utah (Feb. 25-27) and face off against Florida International (March 4), Cal Poly (March 5), Oregon State (March 6), and UC Riverside (March 7) in Surprise, Arizona.
Utah Valley will then have their first home contest against Portland (March 18-20). Mid-week games at in-state foe Utah (March 23 & 30) sandwich a home weekend sereis with Gonzaga (March 25-27). The Wolverines will then receive a return trip from Southern Utah (April 1-3) before beginning Great West Conference play at home against North Dakota (April 9-11).
Also visiting Orem for conference play will be Texas-Pan American (April 30-May 2) and NJIT (May 14-16). The Wolverines will have road conference series at Northern Colorado (April 16-18), Chicago State (April 23-25), NYIT (May 7-9), and Houston Baptist (May 20-22). The Great West Conference Tournament (May 26-29) will be held in Edinburg, Texas.
Other notable non-conference contests for Utah Valley include a home contest against Utah (April 13) as well as a home-and-home series with BYU (May 4 & 18).
