GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina baseball team will conclude its fall practice this week with their annual Purple-Gold World Series at Lewis Field inside Clark LeClair Stadium starting Tuesday, Oct. 6.
The Pirates, who started fall practice on Sept. 6, will play a seven inning game on Oct. 6 starting at 3:15 p.m., which will be followed by a nine-inning affair on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. before concluding the annual event on Thursday, Oct. 8 with another seven inning contest beginning at 4:30 p.m. Admission is free to all Pirate fans.
Fifth-year head coach Billy Godwin has announced that seniors Kyle Roller (East Carolina) and Jared Avchen (Pirates) will get a chance to show off their managerial skills as the two have been named coaches for the three-game series.
ECU welcomes back 20 letterwinners including All-Americans Seth Maness and Kyle Roller; Freshman All-American Kevin Brandt, All C-USA performers Brad Mincey and Trent Whitehead and eighth-round draft pick Devin Harris.
Also stepping onto the diamond are eight new faces, which consist of junior college transfer Daniel Warzon (Young Harris), as well as seven freshmen: Bryan Bass, Chris Gosik, Jake Harris, D.J. Jauss,Tyler Joyner, Tanner Merritt and John Wooten.
The Pirates, who have made 10 NCAA appearances in the last 11 seasons, claimed the 2009 Conference USA Regular season and 2009 Greenville Regional titles and advanced to its third NCAA Super Regional on the way to a 46-20 overall record.
