BOONE, N.C. — Twenty-seven home games highlight Appalachian State University’s 2010 baseball schedule, head coach Chris Pollard announced on Wednesday.
Eighteen of the 27 tilts at ASU’s Beaver Field at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium will be held on weekends, beginning March 5-7 with a three-game series versus Rider. Appalachian will also host three-game Southern Conference series against Western Carolina (March 19-21), Furman (April 2-4), Davidson (April 9-11), UNC Greensboro (April 15-17) and College of Charleston (May 14-16) and mid-week non-conference tilts versus Columbia (March 16-17), Ohio (March 23), East Tennessee State (March 30), North Carolina A&T (April 7), High Point (April 14), UNC Asheville (April 27), Wake Forest (April 28) and Gardner-Webb (May 5).
The Mountaineers open the 2010 campaign on Feb. 19 versus Presbyterian at the Marriott Classic in Spartanburg, S.C. where they’ll also face the host, USC Upstate, the following day.
The next weekend (Feb. 26-28), Appalachian co-hosts the inaugural North-South Challenge with Gardner-Webb at McNair Field in Forest City, N.C. As part of the North-South Challenge, ASU squares off twice with Niagara of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and once versus defending MAAC champion Marist.
ASU’s slate is rounded out with SoCon road series at Georgia Southern (March 12-14), The Citadel (March 26-28), Samford (April 23-25), Elon (May 7-9) and Wofford (May 21-23) and eight non-conference road dates, highlighted by a trip to Auburn on March 10.
The 2010 Southern Conference Tournament will be held May 26-30 at Riley Park in Charleston, S.C.
Appalachian posted a 33-21 record in 2009, giving the program three-straight 30-win seasons for the first time in over 20 years.
