STANFORD, Calif.– Stanford Baseball released its 2010 schedule, featuring 32 of its 56 regular season games at home, including three-game non-conference series with perennial playoff teams, Rice, Texas, Pepperdine and Long Beach State, as well as five of the nine Pac-10 series at Sunken Diamond.
Stanford finished the 2009 season 30-25 in Mark Marquess’ 33rd season. The Cardinal have played in 14 College World Series, won 20 conference championships and have featured 82 players all-time in the Major Leagues—including 11 this year.
The Cardinal open up the season with Super Regional team, Rice, from February 19 to 21.
The team will travel to Austin to face College World Series participant, Texas in a three-game series February 26-28, and will open up Pac-10 play at home, against USC, on March 26. The Cardinal close out the schedule, at home, against defending Pac-10 Champion and CWS participant, Arizona State, May 28-30.
The Texas series continues a series dating back to 2006, while the Cardinal will host Rice (1991), UC Santa Barbara (1997) and Pepperdine (1992) for the first time in three-game series since the 1990’s. The three-game series at Long Beach State, long-time playoff rivals, will be the first three-game series between the two California programs.
The schedule also includes non-conference weekday series with area teams, Pacific, San Francisco, UC Davis, Saint Mary’s, San Jose State and Santa Clara. Stanford, which hosts Cal in a three-game conference series in late April, also plays in Berkeley in a non-conference affair on April 5.
The schedule also include an exhibition game with Rikkyo Japan on March 2 at Sunken Diamond. Rikkyo’s head coach is Masahisa Sakaguchi, and has also coached with the Japanese National Team.
The Pac-10 breakdown is as follows: at home (USC, Mar. 26-28, Oregon, Apr. 9-11, Cal, Apr. 23-25, Washington State, May 14-16, Arizona State, May 28-30) and away (UCLA, Apr. 1-3, Oregon State, Apr. 16-18, Washington, Apr. 30-May 2, Arizona, May 21-23)
