Head coach Steve Farley enters his 19th season with Butler baseball as the 2010 season approaches. Coach Farley and the Bulldogs look to improve from a very disappointing 2009 campaign that saw the team finish with a 13-41 record.
The Bulldogs will kick off the season at the Wofford College Tournament (Feb. 26-28) with games against NJIT, Wofford, and South Carolina Upstate. Butler then returns home for a mid-week game against Indiana Tech (March 3) before travelling to Winter Haven, Florida for their Florida Spring Trip (March 5-11).
After the week long stay in Florida, the team will have two mid-week games, with a home game against Marian (March 16) and a road game at Dayton (March 17). The Bulldogs will round out pre-conference play with a four game weekend series against Buffalo (March 19-21) and single games against Cincinnati (March 23) and at Marian (March 24).
Butler will have home Horizon League series against Youngstown State (March 26-27), Wright State (April 2-3), Milwaukee (April 16-17), Valparaiso (May 16), and Cleveland State (May 20-21). The Bulldogs will hit the road for conference play against Illinois-Chicago (April 9-10), Cleveland State (April 24), Youngstown State (April 25), Valparaiso (May 7-8), and Milwaukee (May 14). Other notable games on the 2010 schedule for the Bulldogs include a home game against in-state foe Indiana State (April 7) and road contests at Big 10 opponents Illinois (May 5) and Purdue (May 18).
The Youngstown State Penguins are currently scheduled to begin the 2010 season with an eight game road trip. The Penguins will visit New Orleans (Feb. 26-28) to take on the Privateers, followed by a weekend series at Cincinnati (March 5-7) and a two game mid-week set at Lipscomb (March 9-10). Youngstown State will then have its home opener against Walsh (March 12-14) before hitting the road again for a mid-week game at Pittsburgh (March 16). Next on the schedule for the Penguins will be a ticket in the Villanova Classic (March 19-21) with games against La Salle, St. Joseph’s, and Villanova.
The Penguins will then face off against Kent State (March 24) before beginning conference play on the road at Butler (March 26-27). Other road Horizon League series for Youngstown State include Cleveland State (April 30-May 1), Wright State (May 7-8 and May 16), Valparaiso (May 15), and Milwaukee (May 21-22). Home conference series for the Penguins include Illinois-Chicago (April 2-3), Valparaiso (April 9-10), Milwaukee (April 24), and Butler (April 25). Also highlighting the schedule for the Penguins are non-conference games at home against LeMoyne (April 17-18), Pittsburgh (April 21), and Kent State (April 27).
