FORT WORTH, Texas – Head baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle announced the addition of 14 members to the baseball team. Highlighting the recruiting class are 2009 first-year Major League draft picks Matt Purke from Klein High School in Houston, Round Rock-native Josh Elander and Jerome Pena of Cave Creek, Ariz.
The class of 14 features nine high school players and five junior college transfers.
Purke, a left-handed pitcher, was the 14th overall pick in the draft by the Texas Rangers out of Klein High School in Houston. The Washington Nationals drafted Elander, a catcher from Round Rock, in the 37th round. A utility player, Pena transfers to TCU from Western Nevada Community College and was selected in the 40th round by the New York Mets.
