College of Charleston adds 17 for 2009-2010 school year

CollegeofCharleston College of Charleston baseball coach Monte Lee will welcome 17 new student-athletes for the 2010 season, it was announced on Thursday.

The class is made up of five pitchers, nine position players and three players who pitch and play a position.  The class represents three states (South Carolina, Florida and Georgia), including 12 from the state of South Carolina.

"We are excited about this class and what they bring to our program," said Lee, who enters his second season as coach of the Cougars. "I look forward to this group coming in and competing at a high level."

Here’s a breakdown of Charleston’s recruiting class:

Daniel Aldrich … 6-2, 200 … OF … Wando HS … Mt. Pleasant, S.C. … hit .461 with 43 RBI … led the state with 13 homers … stole nine bases … scored 35 runs … 41-for-89 at the plate … added six doubles and a triple … two-time All-State … World Wood Bat MVP … Baseball America second team All-American … Rawlings 3rd team pre-season All-American.

Ross Hanna … 6-4, 275 … INF … Spartanburg Methodist JC … Spartanburg, S.C. … JC South East Region Tournament MVP … JUCO World Series appearance … 4-time All-Region performer in high school … hit .416 with 15 HR and 71 RBI last season.

Heath Hembree … 6-4, 200 … RHP … Spartanburg Methodist JC … Cowpens, S.C. … 7-0 with a 1.22 ERA at SMC … first team JC All-Region … HS Region 2-AA Player of the Year.

Jamie Holler … 6-0, 170 … RHP/INF … USC Sumter JC … Rock Hill, S.C. … JC Academic All-American … second team JC All-Region … at USC Sumter JC, hit .301 with a homer and 11 RBI … 3-0 with a 2.94 ERA over 64.1 innings … had 52 Ks and just 17 walks.
