Head Coach Scoot Googins Adds Nick Otte to Coaching Staff
CINCINNATI – Xavier baseball head coach Scoot Googins has announced the addition of Nick Otte to the XU coaching staff. He will serve primarily as the pitching coach for the Musketeers after serving three years as an assistant at Miami (Ohio).
During his time at Miami, Otte was responsible for overseeing the progress and development of the outfielders. Additionally, he designed and implemented a year-long speed and development program for the team as well as a strength and power program for the pitching staff.
Prior to his stint at Miami, Otte spent two years as the first assistant at Georgetown College overseeing several aspects of the team. He served as the recruiting coordinator, strength and conditioning coordinator and pitching coach while also coordinating outfield play and base running. Otte coached the Mid South Conference and Region IX Player of the Year and in his second year lowered the team ERA from 5.23 to 4.13. FULL STORY

SUMMER COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
Kennedy Winn is helping keep the Brazos Valley Bombers in the middle of the Texas Collegiate League race with a record of 17-19, placing them third in the standings. Winn has started seven out of eight games pitched and has recorded a 2-0 mark through 37 innings pitched with an ERA of 4.54 and 27 strikeouts.
On the West Coast, Jarrett Semler (Newport Beach Storm) has also produced a winning record going 2-1 through 19 innings pitched with an ERA of 5.21 and 10 strikeouts. He has also started in three out of six games pitched.

LSU’s Mathews Named Summer League All-Star
BATON ROUGE — LSU reliever Spencer Mathews represented the Thomasville (N.C.) HiToms this week in the Coastal Plain League All-Star game in Wilmington, N.C.
Mathews, a sophomore from Lake Charles, La. pitched a scoreless fifth inning in the game, allowing no hits and fanning two batters. The contest ended in a 2-2 tie after 10 innings.
Mathews, who made five relief appearances during LSU’s 2009 national championship season, has been a solid arm out of the bullpen for the HiToms this summer. He has a 3-3 record with a 2.11 ERA, 29 strikeouts, seven walks and one save in 21 appearances.
He has also held opponents to a .250 batting average in 42.2 innings of work.
Celebrating its 13th season, the Coastal Plain League features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

Jake Buchanan Continues Mastery In Cape League
RALEIGH, N.C. – Jake Buchanan continues to roll for Cotuit as the summer season winds down in the Cape Cod League. Buchanan followed up back-to-back complete games last week with a seven-inning outing at Brewster on Monday. He allowed two runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out six in the 5-3 victory.
To show how well Buchanan has pitched this summer, that outing actually raised his ERA for the summer. Through six starts, Buchanan (3-1) has posted a 0.84 ERA in 43 innings, including the two complete games. He has walked six and struck out 38. The league is hitting just .209 off the Wolfpack righty.
