CBB Visit: CCBL All-Star Game Recap

I took the day off from work to take in the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game on Thursday night. The game was played at Fenway Park for the first time since the late 1980’s as the players got their chance to play at one of the better MLB parks in the country.

The game started early as the weather forecast called for heavy rains later in the night.

Brandon Workman (Texas) started the game for the Western Division and easily went through the first inning without giving up a hit as he struck out two batters. The Western squad would jump all over Rob Rasmussen (UCLA) as Todd Cunningham (Jacksonville State) would reach on a groundball to third baseman Jedd Gyorko (West Virginia) who would let the ball eat him up. Cunningham would come around to score when Zach Cox (Arkansas) hit a ball over Gary Brown’s (Cal-State Fullerton) head that would bounce off the centerfield wall. Cox would end up with a triple on the play as it was absolutely hammered. It was up there with his homer in the College World Series which nearly left the seating area at Rosenblatt. Cox would eventually score on a one out fielder’s choice by Cody Stanley (UNC-Wilmington) to give the Western Division the 2-0 lead.

Zach Cox would come up to bat again in the second inning with the bases loaded and two outs. He took a pitch through the hole on the left side of the infield which brought home BA Vollmuth (Southern Miss) from third with the third run of the game and give the West squad the 3-0 lead. The game would stay 3-0 through the top of the fifth inning when it was called due to the rain that was pouring down on the field.

I will be giving a full report on all the pitchers that appeared in the game and some of the position players in the coming days. Feel free to come back and check that out.
