COCA COLA PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
Kyle Blair, Brewster RHP
Brewster’s Kyle Blair (San Diego) has earned this week’s Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Week Award. In his only start of the week, the righty put on a commanding performance in a 10-2 victory over Bourne, giving up only two unearned runs in a nine inning complete game. Blair fanned 12 Braves over the course of the game, while scattering only 4 hits.
Blair is a sophomore at University of San Diego. He led the Toreros in earned run average in 2009, at 3.13, and also led the team with a .225 batting average against. Blair began to turn heads his freshman year, posting an 8-4 record and earning All-West Coast Conference Freshman Team honors.
COCA COLA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gary Brown, Orleans OF
The recipient of the Player of the Week Award is Orleans centerfielder Gary Brown (Cal State Fullerton). Brown has compiled a stellar stat sheet over the course of the previous seven games, highlighted by .444 average and a .516
on-base percentage. Brown also provides great power in the leadoff spot, slugging .815 this week with two home runs, two doubles, and a triple. 12 hits and nine runs round out his totals for the week.
As a sophomore at Cal State Fullerton, Brown more than held his own on a team that sported seven All-Americans. Brown finished the season with a .340 average and showcased his speed by leading the team with seven triples and 23 steals. Like Blair, Brown made a name for himself in his freshman year, earning Freshman All-America honors and setting the Cal State Fullerton rookie stolen base record with 25.
