West Coast League Recap for July 13th

The Corvallis Knights lead the West Division with a 21-5 record. The defending champions swept three games against the Kelowna Falcons, and won two of three against the East Division leader, the Wenatchee AppleSox.

Eddie Orozco (UC-Riverside), Trevor Smith (Linn-Benton CC), Drew Leary (San Diego State), and Liam Baron (Linn-Benton CC) combined for a 3-0 shutout at Kelowna, holding the Knights to three hits. The next night, Steve Kalush (Santa Clara) scattered five hits over seven innings in a 6-0 shutout of the Falcons.

The Knights then got a 4-0 shutout against the AppleSox in front of a crowd of 1,445 in Wenatchee. This time, it was Matt Andriese (UC-Riverside) who pitched the first seven innings, allowed three hits, struck out eight. In the next game C Rocky Gale (U. of Portland) singled in the winning run in a 3-1 win. Kyle Kraus (U. of Portland) went seven innings and improved his record to 4-0.

Richie Jiminez (Riverside CC) continues to lead the league with a .447 batting average. Taylor Ard (Mt. Hood CC) is second with a .423 average. Andriese leads WCL pitchers with a record of 3-0, 0.41 ERA.

The East Divison leading Wenatchee AppleSox won two of three against the Bend Elks, then lost two of three to the Knights. The AppleSox are 17-10. They salvaged a 6-4 win in the final game of the series with the Knights; Cody Keefer (UCLA) scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to win it, and Jesse Moore (Hawaii) got the win in relief.

Kyle Johnson (Washington State) continues to lead the AppleSox in hitting with a .346 average, and Chad Wagner (Hawaii Pacific) is their leading pitcher with a record of 2-0, 1.32 ERA.
