CRSCBL roster for Mid-Atlantic Classic announced

calripkinsummerleagueThe Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League announced its roster today for the 2009 Mid-Atlantic Classic on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, Md. The Mid-Atlantic Classic will feature All-Stars from the Cal Ripken, Sr. League taking on their counterparts from the Valley Baseball League in a rare inter-league summer college baseball match-up.

The game, which begins at 7:05 p.m. and will be preceded by a Home Run Derby at 5:30 p.m., will be televised live by the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN). Broadcaster Johnny Holliday and former Orioles pitcher Dave Johnson will call the action for MASN.

Both Leagues will enter four contestants in the Home Run Derby. The Cal Ripken, Sr. League’s contestants for the Home Run Derby will be the Bethesda Big Train’s Cody Freeman (Mississippi State), the Herndon Braves’ Corey Taylor (Binghamton), the Silver Spring-Takoma T-bolts’ Curtis Wilson (NW Shoals (AL) CC), and the Rockville Express’ Justin Leisenheimer (Maine).

The Cal Ripken, Sr. League All-Stars will be managed by Tim Norris, manager of Youse’s Orioles. The Orioles won the Cal Ripken, Sr. League Championship in 2008. Mr. Norris will be assisted by Sal Colangelo, manager of the Bethesda Big Train, Mark Palmerino, manager of the Maryland Redbirds, PJ Mitchell, manager of the Herndon Braves, and Brandon Berlett, assistant coach for Youse’s Orioles.

The Cal Ripken, Sr. League is comprised of eight teams: the Alexandria Aces, the Bethesda Big Train, the College Park Bombers, the Herndon Braves, the Maryland Redbirds, the Rockville Express, the Silver Spring-Takoma T-Bolts, and Youse’s Orioles.

The players who will represent the Cal Ripken, Sr. League at the 2009 Mid-Atlantic Classic are:
