STATESBORO, Ga. – Former Alabama pitching coach B.J. Green joins the Georgia Southern baseball staff. Green, who has over 12 years experience as both a player and coach in the Southeastern Conference, will serve as the pitching coach for the 2009 Southern Conference Champions.
Green served as the pitching coach for seven seasons at the Capstone and helped the Crimson Tide to six NCAA tournament appearances, two SEC Tournament Championships, a 2006 Super Regional Appearance, the 2006 SEC regular season title and the 2002 SEC West championship.
While serving as the pitching coach, Green helped mold his players into some of the best in the country. The 2004 pitching staff finished second in the conference and eighth in the NCAA with a 3.36 ERA. The 2006 staff led the SEC with a 3.51 ERA. Individual honors include 20 draftees, eight major league debuts, two first round picks, four Freshman All-Americans and a National and SEC Freshman of the Year. Currently Lance Cormier (Tampa Bay Rays), Tommy Hunter (Texas Rangers) and David Robertson (New York Yankees) are active with major league clubs.
Green also has served as the Harwich Mariners pitching coach, the Bama Baseball Camp coordinator and Director of Baseball Operations.
While at the Mariners, a Cape Cod league summer team, he helped develop a weight and conditioning program for pitchers in 2003.
From 2003 to 2007 Green organized and helped run the Bama Baseball camp.
Green is a 2002 graduate of the University of Alabama and played baseball for the Crimson Tide. He went 18-4 and set the school single season win record for a freshman. Green helped lead the Tide to a College World Series appearance and a SEC Tournament Championship.
