(CARY, N.C.) – Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) went 3-4 with a solo home run and three RBI for the Blue Team in its 6-1 victory over the Red Team, Tuesday, at the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) Trials in Cary, N.C.

Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning when he lifted a ball over the left-field fence on White Team starter T.J. Walz (Kansas). His homer put the Blue Team ahead 1-0 early in the contest.

Ross Wilson (Alabama) began the fourth inning with a walk for the White Team and later moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a double by Blake Forsythe (Tennessee) with one out. Rob Segedin (Tulane) then hit a deep fly ball to centerfield for the sacrifice to bring Wilson home.

With the score tied at one apiece, Bryce Brentz (Middle Tennessee State) and Andy Wilkins drew back-to-back walks in the bottom of the sixth inning and Yasmani Grandal (Miami) nailed a double up the middle to score Brentz, retaking the lead 2-1.

Colon then stepped up to the plate again and earned two more RBI as his single to left field brought Wilkins and Grandal around for the 4-1 lead after six.

The Blue Team added another two runs in the seventh inning on Michael Choice’s (UT Arlington) sacrifice fly to left and Matt Newman’s (Arizona State) single but the three run lead was all the Blue Team would need as it held on for its sixth consecutive victory at the National Team Trials with a score of 6-1.

Both starting pitchers surrendered one run in the game each in four innings pitched. Tony Zych (Louisville) surrendered three hits for the Blue Team and T.J. Walz (Kansas) surrendered only two hits and struck out seven batters.

The final Blue vs. Red intraquad game of the National Team Trials will begin at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, on Field 3 of the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The team will not hit batting practice before the game. Infield practice will begin at 11:00 AM. The final 22-man roster will be released Wednesday evening.
