The first Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Week of 2009 hails from Bourne, with Braves pitcher Eric Cantrell securing that honor. Cantrell put on a masterful performance in the Braves’ first win of the year, a 5-1 victory over Wareham, recording eight shutout innings and improving to 1-0 on the season. The overpowered Gatemen mustered only two hits and no walks, while striking out 12 times vs. the 6’4” righty.

Cantrell is a sophomore at George Washington. This past season, he ranked second on the team in wins (5), innings pitched (72.2), strikeouts (60), and ERA (4.40). Cantrell was also named to the Atlantic-10 All-Rookie Team as a freshman in 2008.

season. Roller had an astoundingly productive week at the plate, batting .429 and leading the league in slugging percentage at an .810 clip. Roller has driven in seven of his team’s 22 runs, and leads the league in RBI. His two home runs also tie Roller for second in the CCBL in that category. This has all been done despite only 21 plate appearances.

Roller also played for Bourne last year, appearing in 42 games and starting in 17 at first base. He batted .270 with two HR, 22 RBI and 20 runs in 2008 for the Braves, and his 12 doubles ranked him second in the league. Roller is a junior at East Carolina, and a former member of the C-USA All-Freshman team. He ranked third on the team last year with 12 home runs, and an impressive stat line included a .299 average and 50 RBI. Roller looks to be a major contributor to the 2009 Braves.
