With the 2009 College World Series still in progress, the Southern Illinois Salukis have turned their attention toward the 2010 baseball season. The Salukis finished the 2009 campaign with a disappointing 24-28 overall record and fifth place finish in the Missouri Valley Conference with an 11-9 conference record.
The Salukis will begin the 2010 season with a three game series on the road at Arkansas State on February 19-21. The road trip will continue with a mid-week game at Tennessee-Martin followed by a weekend series at Jacksonville State on February 26-28. The home opener will be a two-game mid-week set with Middle Tennessee State on March 2-3, followed by a home non-conference series against in-state Purdue on March 5-7.
The Salukis will then travel to California for a mid-week game at San Jose State before participating in the Santa Clara County Cup Classic against UC Davis, San Jose State, and host Santa Clara on March 11-14. On the way home, Southern Illinois will stop off in Kentucky for a mid-week game against Murray State. The Salukis will then begin their longest homestand of the season, 11 games, including the first two conference series of the season against Creighton on March 26-28 and Bradley on April 2-4.
The team will then hit the road for their next two conference series at defending Missouri Valley Conference Champion Wichita State April 9-11 and Illinois State on April 16-18. The next weeeknd will see the Salukis face off against conference rival Indiana State in Carbondale, followed by a eight straight non-conference games against Eastern Illinois, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Illinois, and Middle Tennessee State.
The Salukis then return to conference play at home against Evansville on May 14-16 before a mid-week game against Saint Louis and the conference season finale at Missouri State on May 20-22. The Missouri Valley Conference Tournament is scheduled for May 26-29 in Wichita, Kansas.
2010 Southern Illinois Schedule
