WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Colonial Athletic Association has awarded its 2010 and 2011 baseball championships to UNC Wilmington, extending the school’s run of hosting the event to eight consecutive seasons and 10 times overall.

The decision was made late last week during the league’s summer meeting in Hilton Head, S.C., and announced Monday.

“UNCW has done an excellent job as the host of the CAA Baseball Championship,” CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager said. “Brooks Field is a first-class facility for the event, and we look forward to building on the success of past years.”

Director of Athletics Kelly Mehrtens is pleased that conference officials are bringing the event back to the Port City. “We’re very excited about the baseball tournament coming back,” said Mehrtens. “The fan and community support at Brooks Field makes for a tremendous setting for what has been an exciting week of baseball action for the last six years.”
