Kansas State 16 Xavier 8
HOUSTON, Texas – Justin Bloxom went 5-for-5 at the plate with two home runs as 14th-ranked Kansas State cruised to a 16-8 win over Xavier in its first-ever NCAA Regional baseball game Friday afternoon at Reckling Park.
The Wildcats (42-16-1) belted 17 hits against the Musketeers (38-20) as Bloxom, Jordan Cruz (3-for-4), Carter Jurica (2-for-4) and Jason King (2-for-3) led the K-State offense in the opening game of the Houston Regional at Rice University.
Bloxom recorded a career-high five hits, four of which went for extra bases. His two home runs pushed his season total to 11, marking the first time since 1997 that two or more Wildcats have produced double-digit home runs in a season as Cruz also delivered his 11th home run in the blowout.

Rice 5 Sam Houston State 2
HOUSTON — Junior pitcher Mike Ojala fired 7.0 steady innings and sophomore Chad Mozingo went 3-for-4 with a run scored to pace the Rice baseball team to a 5-2 victory over visiting Sam Houston State in the opening round of the NCAA Regional Friday evening at Reckling Park in Houston.
With the win the Owls advance to meet Kansas State in Saturday’s second-round winners-bracket game. In the Regional’s first game at Reckling Park, Kansas State defeated Xavier 16-8. Rice and KSU are scheduled for a 6 pm start Saturday. Sam Houston and Xavier meet in an elimination game at 2 pm.
Rice had to rally for the lead after Sam Houston State jumped on the scoreboard for a run in the top of the first inning. Bearkat third baseman Ryan Mooney knocked a pitch over the wall in left field for a 1-0 lead.
