Fort Worth Regional- Day 1 Recap

Here is your recap from the first day of action in the Fort Worth Regional.

Oregon State 9 Texas A&M 8

FORT WORTH, Texas – Carter Bell set a season-high with three hits and Koa Kahalehoe drove in three RBI on three hits as the Oregon State baseball team opened the Fort Worth Regional with a 9-8 win over Texas A&M Friday afternoon at Lupton Stadium.

The Beavers held on late, allowing seven Texas A&M runs over the final three innings. That included a three-run home run with two outs by Caleb Shofner in the ninth off Kevin Rhoderick. But the OSU reliever got Adam Smith out to end the game.

Bell posted hits in each of his first three at bats, driving in two runs in the fourth. Bell, making the start at third base, surpassed his previous season high of two hits against Washington State on May 16.

TCU 6 Wright State 3

The TCU baseball program collected its first victory in NCAA Regional Championship action as the Horned Frogs notched a 6-3 victory over Wright State on Friday evening at Lupton Stadium.

Trailing the Frogs by a 1-0 count in the top of the third inning, Wright State found its way on the scoreboard when Aaron Fields doubled, Jeff Mercer reached first base after being hit by a pitch then Casey McGrew connected on a three-run home run to give the Raiders a 3-1 advantage.

TCU responded with a trio of runs of its own in the bottom half of the third frame as the Frogs pounded out four hits in the inning. Brian Holaday, Jason Coats and Matt Curry each collected a RBI hits in the frame to give the Frogs a 4-3 lead after three innings of action.
