Game 1: #3 Southern Miss 17, #2 Elon 15

Senior second baseman Bennett Davis’ three home runs were not enough for Elon in a 17-15 loss to the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss.

The two teams combined for 71 total bases, the 4th highest ever total in an NCAA regional game. The slugfest also featured 11 home runs and 34 hits.

Bo Davis, senior right fielder for Southern Miss, hit his second home run of the game in the 9th inning to put the Golden Eagles ahead for good. Elon scored 2 in the bottom of the 9th, but those runs were not enough. Southern Miss advances in the winners’ bracket of the Atlanta regional.

Game 2: #1 Georgia Tech 9, #4 Georgia State 3

Freshman third baseman Matt Skole hit a 5th inning grand slam to lead the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to a 9-3 victory over cross-town rival Georgia State.

All-American pitcher Deck McGuire scattered 9 hits over 7 innings to improve to 11-1 on the season. Sophomore lead-off hitter Jeff Rowland scored 3 runs for Tech in the victory.

Senior right fielder Luke Murton added a 2-run single in the bottom of the 8th to ice the game for the Jackets.
