Here is your ACC Recap for May 23rd in the final day of round-robin play in the 2009 ACC Baseball Tournament.

Georgia Tech 9 FSU 2

DURHAM, N.C. – Luke Murton’s 18th home run of the season highlighted a three-run third inning, and Brandon Cumpton tossed 5-1/3 solid innings to help Georgia Tech snap a four-game losing streak with a 9-2 win over Florida State Saturday afternoon at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

“This was a game that we wanted to win, and we felt like we had a good pitcher going for us today,” head coach Danny Hall said. “I thought Brandon pitched great, only giving up one run.

“I was also happy to see Luke Murton get his first hit of the tournament, which was the three-run homer that gave us some momentum.

Clemson 4 UNC 3 (11 innings)

Durham, NC – With two outs in the 11th inning, Wilson Boyd’s single off the wall in left field drove home Mike Freeman to give #13 Clemson a 4-3 victory over #4 North Carolina in front of 6,956 fans at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in the ACC Tournament on Saturday. The Tigers, who completed the tourney with a 1-2 record, improved to 40-19. The Tar Heels, who also went 1-2 in the tournament, fell to 42-16.

After both teams missed out on opportunities to score the go-ahead run in previous frames, Freeman hit a one-out, infield single and went all the way to third base on the play when pitcher Patrick Johnson’s off-balance throw to first was errant. After two intentional walks to load the bases and a strikeout, Boyd fouled off several 3-2 pitches before he belted an opposite-field single off the wall in left to send the Tigers to victory.

It was Clemson’s third walkoff hit and second by Boyd in 2009, as he also had a two-out, bases-loaded single to give the Tigers a 6-5 win over Charlotte on February 22.
