Bryan-College Station, TX (May 18, 2009) –
The Brazos Valley Bombers announced today the acquisition of three Texas A&M Aggies who they believe will provide an immediate boost to the teams’ title hopes. Brodie Greene, Brett Parsons and Aaron Daab will undoubtedly supply the team with a home town advantage, as well as tournament-level experience and outstanding playing ability.
Greene joins the Bombers after an exceptional junior season with the Aggies in which he led the team in batting average and total bases. Spending the majority of his time at second base, he hit .352 with 11 doubles, 11 home runs and 10 stolen bases in a breakout season that included a .375 average in Big 12 Conference play. After hitting an impressive .290 in his sophomore season, Greene made huge strides this past spring and has established himself as one of college baseball’s premier prospects.
Greene came to Texas A&M in 2007 after growing up in Bullard, Texas, a small town south of Tyler with a population of just over 1,000. He lettered all four years in baseball and basketball at Bullard High School and earned several awards during an outstanding career. In addition to being named district MVP three seasons, he was selected first-team all-state in his junior and senior seasons after hitting .478 and .525 respectively. Greene also put his talents on display on the hard court, as he was named 3A Player of the Year following his senior season.
At 6’4” and 220 pounds, Parsons is an ideal power-hitting first baseman, capable of hitting any given pitch out of the ballpark. After being named a third-team All-American at Navarro Junior College in 2008, Parson transferred to Texas A&M, where he should be a cornerstone at first base for the next several years. He was selected in the 41st round by the Tampa Bay Rays after hitting .415 with 10 home runs and 65 RBI, but opted to come to Texas A&M this past season instead. Like Greene, Parsons was a multi-sport athlete at the Woodlands High School in football and baseball. He led the Highlanders to the state championship his junior season after hitting .401 with 27 doubles.
Daab will be an important piece on the Bombers pitching staff this summer as he makes his return from Tommy John surgery. He was medical redshirt for the Aggies this past spring after injuring his elbow last fall, but hopes to make a solid impact this summer. At Katy High School near Houston, Daab was a two-time all-state selection and posted a 20-3 career record with 193 strikeouts in his two seasons with the team. He also set the Texas high school record in his senior season with an incredible 24 pickoffs and finished his career with 41.
