The biggest story in New England a couple of years ago was the emergence of Matt Harvey down in Connecticut as he was one of the top high school players in the country. After being drafted by the Los Angelos Angels of Anaheim in the third round but failing to agree to a contract with the Angels, it was decided that he would head to North Carolina to continue his development. The 2009 season has been up and down for Matt as he entered the game with a 5-2 record but an ERA of 6.70.
Harvey ended up pitching his best game of the season as he went 8.2 innings while only allowing a ninth inning run as the Tar Heels finished the season with an 8-1 victory over Boston College. Harvey was featuring a 94 MPH fastball in the first inning but it ended up dipping down into the 89-91 category for most of the game.
The Tar Heels offense was led by Ben Bunting. The entire UNC offense seemed to have no problems with Boston College starter Pat Dean as only one of the nine starters did not record at least one hit in the game.
