UConn 16 Villanova 6
PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – UConn scored six runs in the fifth inning to jump to a five-run lead en route to its 33rd win of the season as the Huskies downed Villanova 16-6 in their final regular season game of the 2009 season. The Huskies will head to Clearwater, Fla. on Sunday for the 2009 BIG EAST Baseball Championship to be held at Bright House Field Tuesday, May 19 – Saturday, May 23.
With today’s victory, UConn improves to 33-23 on the year and 14-13 in BIG EAST play and will be the No. 6 seed in the conference championship. The Huskies will meet No. 3 seed West Virginia in their first game of the double-elimination tournament on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
In this afternoon’s battle, sophomore Pierre LePage led the Huskies with a 4-for-5 performance along with two runs scored and five RBI. Matt Burnett also went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI, while Harold Brantley Jr was 2-for-2 with two runs as UConn took the conference series two games to one.
Rutgers 5 Georgetown 3
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers baseball team bid a fond farewell to its six-member senior class with a 5-3 victory over Georgetown in the 2009 season finale Saturday afternoon in front of 382 fans at Bainton Field.
Rutgers completed the season 22-31 overall and 8-19 in the BIG EAST. The Scarlet Knights honored their senior class – Ryan Beard (Point Pleasant, N.J.), Jason Downey (Ballston Lake, N.Y.), Luis Feliz (New Brunswick, N.J.), Jon McCue (Hillside, N.J.), Tim Reilly (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) and Tony Wargo (New Providence, N.J.) – in a ceremony prior to the game.
Wargo fired five innings of scoreless ball, yielding just three hits before handing it over to fellow seniors Downey and McCue. Junior Kevin Lillis (Fair Haven, N.J.) pitched a scoreless eighth and the Scarlet Knights’ closer Beard sealed it in the ninth to move up the school’s record book.

St. John’s 10 Notre Dame 6
QUEENS, N.Y. – In front of a live television audience, the St. John’s baseball team defeated Notre Dame, 10-6, to secure the No. 4 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament. Paul Karmas was 3-for-5 with an RBI, while Jimmy Parque, Tim Morris, Joe Panik and Matt Wessinger added two RBI apiece to lead St. John’s (29-20, 16-11). Brendan Lobban (4-2) earned the win in relief, allowing one run and adding three strikeouts in 2.0 innings. AJ Pollock had two home runs and three RBI to pace Notre Dame (33-21, 15-12).
St. John’s took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. After Brian Kemp reached on an error and advanced to second on a fielder’s choice, Karmas lined an RBI single into center field.
Notre Dame tied the score in the second with a pair of two-out singles. After retiring the first two batters, Miguel Valcarcel allowed a single to Mick Doyle. Following a wild pitch that allowed Doyle to move to second, Cameron McConnell sent an RBI single into center field.
