Greg Folgia (Missouri) and Ross Hales (Texas A&M) have been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games of May 4-10 in voting by a panel of media covering the conference. Folgia earns the accolade for the second time of his career, both in 2009, while Hales receives the honor for the first time.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Greg Folgia, Missouri, OF, Jr. North Wales, Pa./Christopher Dock

Folgia hit four home runs, drove in 20 and hit .500 in the Tigers’ four games last week. He had at least one hit in each contest along with a slugging percentage of 1.250. In the KU series, Folgia recorded a .545 batting average and compiled a 1.365 slugging percentage. Folgia opened the series against Kansas with his second two-home run shot of the season, including an inside the park homer. He put the Tigers on the board in Friday’s series opener with a solo homer in the first inning, then drove in three on the homer in the sixth. Folgia homered for the third-straight game on Saturday, as he hit his team-leading 12th home run of the year. He closed the week going 3-for-5 with two RBI on Sunday against KU. The North Wales, Pa. native also had a pair of hits against Missouri State on Tuesday, including his ninth home run of the season.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Ross Hales, Texas A&M, LHP, Fr, Baytown, Texas/Barbers Hills

Hales tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout over No. 7 Texas in Austin on Saturday. He struck out nine and did not walk a batter while facing just three hitters over the minimum. The victory marked A&M’s first shutout of the Longhorns since 1979 and the first nine-inning shutout by an Aggie pitcher since 2004. Hales allowed four base runners on the day, giving up hits in the first, fifth and ninth innings. Only one batter reached on a wild pitch after striking out, and just one Longhorn advanced to second base, on an outfield error. The Baytown, Texas hurler went to a three-ball count on just one UT hitter.
