(Victoria, Texas) The Victoria Generals of the Texas Collegiate League are continuing the process of building their expansion franchise. Head Coach Chris Clemons and Brad Haynes, VP of Baseball Operations have been diligent in identifying the young men that will wear Generals uniforms this summer. “Character, love of the game, and understanding the team concept is a vital part in putting together our roster,” said Haynes.
The Generals are very pleased that another local standout has agreed to join them for their inaugural season. Mark Hudson, the Alvin outfielder that has enjoyed plenty of success at Riverside Park, has finalized the position needs for Clemons. Hudson was 1st team all state his senior year at Memorial H.S. Last season he helped lead Alvin to the JUCO World Series where he hit .333 in four games. His parents are Sam and Lezli Hudson.
Zachary Nuding, is a 6’4″ 250 pound relief pitcher from Weatherford College. Coach Chris Clemons commented that “we now have a bona fide reliever in our bullpen” Nuding had 2 wins and 5 saves for Weatherford in his freshman season. His hometown is Haltom, Tx.
One of the final pieces to coach Clemons’ roster assembly was finding a little more power. Mike Davis, the first baseman for Lambuth University in Tennessee was just the ticket. Local fans will recall his mammoth home runs during the qualifying tournament that UHV recently hosted at Riverside, and Davis readily agreed to the General’s invitation to return to Texas for the summer. Davis just completed his junior season with the Lambuth Baseball program. For the second consecutive season Mike played in every game for the Eagles. The 6’1 220 pounder is from Minnetonka, MN and helped lead Lambuth to a 35-20 record. This season he appeared in all 55 games. He hit .364 in 187 AB’s scoring 53 runs. He led the team with 131 total bases and had a slugging percentage of .701. Davis led the Eagles with 17 home runs and 48 RBI’s. Mike was named to the A.I.I. All-Conference team
