Darin Thomas has announced the signings of five incoming recruits

ARLINGTON, Texas – The University of Texas at Arlington head baseball coach Darin Thomas has announced the addition of five incoming student-athletes to his program’s 2009-10 signing class. The Mavericks have received signed National Letters of Intent from Preston Beck (Dallas, Texas), Brody Walker (Robinson, Texas), Sam Hansen (Hewitt, Texas), Logan Bawcom (Granbury, Texas) and Josh Christenson (Humble, Texas).

“We are excited to add these five players to our recruiting class,” Thomas said. “We feel this group of players compliment the incoming players that we signed in the fall.”

Preston Beck – RHP/3B – L/R – Dallas, Texas/Bishop Lynch HS

Beck was a 2008 first team TAPPS All-State selection and earned first team All-District accolades during his junior season. This season, Beck is batting .506 (39-for-77) with six doubles, five triples and seven home runs with 39 RBI. On the mound, Beck is 4-2 with a 2.60 ERA in 33 innings while tallying 49 strikeouts. In a game earlier this season, Beck struck out 14 batters against Texas Christian Academy.

Brody Walker – LHP – L/L – Robinson, Texas/Waco Midway HS

Walker has helped lead Waco Midway HS to a 23-5 overall record and to a Max Prep No. 30 ranking in the state of Texas (4A). Walker had a breakthrough sophomore season in 2007 with a 10-2 record on the mound with 100 strikeouts.

Sam Hansen – RHP/UTL – S/R – Hewitt, Texas/Waco Midway HS

Hansen is a two-way player at Waco Midway HS where he and fellow UTA signee Brody Walker have led their team to a 23-5 overall record. Hansen is 4-1 on the mound with a 2.38 ERA. A switch hitter, Hansen is batting .318 with two homers and 31 RBI. He was a second team All-Conference selection as a sophomore and junior and plays summer baseball for the Austin Slam. Hansen was selected to play in the Good Will Games in Japan following his sophomore season. Hansen’s brother, Shaver, is currently the starting shortstop at Baylor.

Logan Bawcom – RHP/1B – R/R – Granbury, Texas/Greenwood HS/Midland J.C.

Bawcom has helped guide Midland Junior College to a 34-17 overall record this season as a first baseman and pitcher. Bawcom is batting .369 (48-for-130) with 34 runs, seven doubles, three triples and 10 home runs with 46 RBI. On the mound, Bawcom is 3-1 in 24.2 innings pitched with seven saves and 37 strikeouts. As a prep, Bawcom was an All-State shortstop while leading Class 3A in home runs with 13 in 2007. He was named All-District all four seasons and was named to several high school all-star teams.

Josh Christenson – RHP – R/R – Humble, Texas/Humble HS/Richland J.C.

Christenson is a right-handed pitcher at Richland Junior College. Richland is currently ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA Division III poll. Christenson has tallied two saves with a 3.86 ERA this season. He has also contributed as a hitter this season with 14 RBI and nine extra-base hits (2 HR). During his freshman season at Richland in 2008, Christenson batted .402 and recorded 82 hits, 14 doubles and 13 home runs with 72 RBI.
