tcupowFORT WORTH, Texas – Catcher Bryan Holaday and right-handed pitcher Eric Marshall have been tabbed Mountain West Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. The honor is the first for each and the third and fourth for the Frogs this season.

Holaday, a Dallas, Texas, native, hit .400 (6-for-15) at the plate, with two home runs, one double, eight RBI and three runs scored as the Horned Frogs went 4-1 last week, including a 2-1 record vs. 19th-ranked San Diego State.

In game one of a two-game series vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Holaday went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored in TCU’s 6-2 win. In game two vs. the Islanders, he had a pinch-hit two-run double to extend the Horned Frogs’ lead in their 10-7 win.

In the game-opener of a three-game series vs. San Diego State, Holaday went 1-for-3 with a seventh inning three-run homer off of Stephen Strasburg to pull TCU within one run in its 4-3 loss. In game two, he went 1-for-5 in the Horned Frogs’ 8-7 win. He concluded the series with a 2-for-3 performance, including a two-run homer in TCU’s 6-5 win. Defensively, Holaday tallied three assists and 31 putouts from the catcher position, including throwing out two runners attempting to steal.

Marshall, from Barrington, Ill., tallied three saves in three relief appearances last week, giving up three hits, no walks and no runs, while striking out three in 3.2 innings of work.

Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Marshall came on in the eighth and after allowing the tying run on base, induced a ground out to end the inning and leave the base runner on third. He secured the 10-7 Horned Frog win by setting down the Islanders in order in the ninth. In game two vs. San Diego State, Marshall entered the game in the eighth inning to allow just two hits in 1.1 innings of work in TCU’s 8-7 come-from-behind win. In the final game of the series vs. the Aztecs, he came on in the ninth and retired the top of the Aztec lineup in order, including two via strikeout in TCU’s 6-5 win.

Earlier this season, Matt Curry was honored as the Hitter of the Week (Feb. 23) and Paul Gerrish the Pitcher of the Week (April 6).
