PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore outfielder Junior Carlin of USF was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week after helping USF sweep West Virginia for a three game lead in the conference standings. Junior right handed pitcher Keith Cantwell of Seton Hall was tabbed the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week after his complete-game to help sweep Georgetown.
Carlin hit .889, slugged 1.111 and had a .909 on-base percentage as USF scored a series sweep of West Virginia to build a three-game lead in the BIG EAST standings. He was 8-for-9 with a triple, three runs scored and two RBI in the series. He also contributed with two sacrifice bunts, a walk and a hit-by-pitch. After going 2-for-3 in the opener, Carlin was a combined 6-for-6 in the second and third games.
Cantwell pitched a complete-game seven-hit shutout to help Seton Hall to a series sweep of Georgetown. He struck out six batters without a walk and scattered six singles and a doubles to lead the Pirates to a 6-0 win in the second game of the series on April 25. Cantwell, who registered his second shutout of the season, improved to 5-2 with the win and lowered his earned-run average to 3.58, good for sixth in the BIG EAST.
