MINNEAPOLIS – The D3baseball.com/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Top 25 poll was released Tuesday and Salisbury University remains ranked second in the nation. This is the third straight week the Sea Gulls (33-5) have been the second-ranked team in the nation. SU amassed four first-place votes and 560 total points.
University of Southern Maine (28-3) moved from No. 5 to No. 1 this week. The Huskies garnered 10 first-place votes and 584 total points. Pomona-Pitzer College (31-3) collected seven first-place votes and 557 points as they jumped from No. 8 to No. 3. The College of St. Scholastic (24-2) is now ranked fourth, received two first-place votes and 528 points. Former No. 1 Millsaps College (32-6) rounds out the top five at No. 5 as the Majors collected one first-place vote and 525 points. Eastern Connecticut State University (24-6) received one first-place vote and 421 points as the Warriors are now eighth.
Capital Athletic Conference foe York (Pa.) College received recognition in this week’s poll as the Spartans received votes.
Salisbury is ranked No. 4 in the latest American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division III poll also released on Tuesday.
The Sea Gulls will continue non-conference play this week as they square off against Frostburg State University (21-11) at Towson University on Wednesday, April 22, at 3:30 p.m. SU will then compete in a home-and-away series against Christopher Newport University (21-9-1) on Friday, April 24, and Saturday, April 25. Game time for Friday’s contest at CNU begins at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday’s game at Sea Gull Field begins at 1 p.m.
