PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior right handed pitcher Eric Maust of Notre Dame was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week after his complete shutout game against West Virginia, while sophomore shortstop Danny Lopez of Pittsburgh was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week.

Lopez hit .600 and slugged 1.000 to lead the Panthers to a three-game sweep of Seton Hall – the Panthers’ first series sweep in BIG EAST play since the 2007 season. He was 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a sacrifice bunt in the opener, went 2-for-4 with a home run, a stolen base and two RBIs in the second game and was 1-for-3 with a run scored in the finale. Lopez helped the Panthers gain two places in the BIG EAST standings.

Maust threw a complete-game five-hit shutout to lead Notre Dame to a 3-0 win against West Virginia, helping the Fighting Irish take two of three from the Mounaineers, who entered the series in a tie atop the BIG EAST standings. Maust scattered five singles, and didn’t allow a Mountaineer runner past second base in shutting out a WVU lineup that had been averaging 10.2 runs per game. Maust struck out two and walked one to register his third consecutive win and improve to 5-2 on the year.
