Chestnut Hill MA- The Virginia Cavaliers took the rubber game against the Boston College Eagles 2-0 in ACC Baseball action on Sunday afternoon.
Boston College sent sophomore LHP Pat Dean to the mound while Virginia sent sophomore RHP Robert Morey to the hill. Dean entered the game with a 4-2 record with an ERA of 3.67 while Morey had a 0-0 record with a 3.63 ERA in ten appearances and only one start.
Virginia would grab the lead in the top of the first inning when Phil Gosselin doubled to left field and would come home on a single by Dan Grovatt.
Pat Dean would hold the Cavaliers offense off the board until the seventh inning. The Cavaliers would score when Jarrett Parker hit a double down the right field line to bring home John Barr with the insurance run.
The first run would be all the Cavaliers needed as Robert Morey kept the Boston College offense off balance with a 91-93 MPH fastball that occasionally hit 94 when he needed to get that little bit extra on his ball. He had one streak early in the game where he struck out five straight Boston College hitters. Morey ended up pitching 7.2 innings while only giving up four hits and a first inning walk. His record now improves to 1-0 while Kevin Arico worked the final 1.1 innings to get his fourth save of the season.
Boston College returns to action on Tuesday when they host Bryant University while Virginia heads to Richmond to take on VCU.
