AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 9 Texas Longhorns completed a three-game Big 12 Conference baseball series sweep of the No. 10 Oklahoma Sooners with a travel curfew-shortened 8-5 win in eight innings at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, Texas (29-8, 12-6 Big 12) remained in first place in the conference standings. The Longhorns hold a one-game lead over Texas A&M who finished the weekend 11-7 in conference play. Texas is also 1.5 games ahead of Baylor whose game was washed out on Sunday and ends the weekend 10-7 in the Big 12.

The win was the 10th in a row overall for the Longhorns and the seventh consecutive win in Big 12 play. Texas has won 15 of its last 17 since suffering a three-game road sweep at the hands of Kansas on March 20-22.

Oklahoma (29-11, 8-7) drew first blood with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the second. With one out, Cameron Seitzer walked to spark the rally. After a strikeout, Tyler Ogle singled to centerfield and Chris Ellison singled to load the bases. The Longhorns appeared to be out of the inning when starter Brandon Workman induced a foul pop fly by Jamie Johnson, but the ball was dropped by third baseman Michael Torres to extend the inning. On the next pitch Johnson singled up the middle driving in a pair and the Sooners staked claim to 2-0 lead.

#23 Texas A&M 10 Nebraska 1

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Kyle Thebeau threw seven strong innings and Joe Patterson added a career-high four hits to lead No. 23 Texas A&M to a 10-1 win over Nebraska and a series sweep Sunday afternoon before 4,141 fans at Olsen Field.

Thebeau, making his first start since the beginning of the 2008 season, was dominant in his return to the rotation. The senior scattered four hits and allowed the Huskers just one run, while retiring the final 12 batters he faced on the afternoon in order to pick up his second win of the ’09 campaign.

Patterson’s career day, meanwhile, headlined a 15-hit attack by the Aggie offense that saw every starter record at least one hit.

The victory gave A&M (25-14, 11-7 Big 12) its first sweep over Nebraska since 1999, and kept the Aggies perfect at home in league play at 8-0. The Huskers fell to 17-21-1 and 4-14. For the weekend, A&M scored 28 runs, out-hit NU, .354 to .160, and posted a 1.33 ERA in holding Nebraska to a total of four runs.

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State scored in nearly every inning, including five times in the fifth that put the game away, as the 21st-ranked Wildcats defeated Missouri, 11-5, Sunday afternoon at Tointon Family Stadium.

With the victory, Kansas State, which salvaged the third game of the series, improved to 29-11 overall and 8-7 in Big 12 play. The Tigers fell to 21-20 and 8-10 in conference action.

Much like Missouri did on Saturday afternoon, Kansas State was able to take advantage its opponent’s mishaps all day as the Tigers committed five errors, walked three batters and hit two others, while the Cats tallied double-digit hits for the 27th time this season..

“We really had to play with a sense of urgency today,” head coach Brad Hill said. “They made some mistakes that we capitalized on, but that’s baseball. That just how it happens at times and we took advantage of it today.”

Carter Jurica led the way for Kansas State as the sophomore went 3-for-3 with three RBI, a walk and a run scored. It was Jurica’s 19th multi-hit game of the season, which leads the team. Dane Yelovich was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and also stole two bases, pushing his season total to 20.
