IRVING, Texas—Dustin Dickerson (Baylor) and Chad Bettis (Texas Tech) have been named Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the games of April 6-12, in voting by a panel of media covering the conference. It is the first weekly honor for both student-athletes.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Dustin Dickerson, Baylor, 1B, Jr., 6-4, 205, McGregor, Texas/Midway

Dickerson hit safely in all five contests, extending his career-best hitting streak to 19 games. He also owns the Big 12’s longest mark this season, which is tied for seventh-longest in Baylor history. In the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader against Missouri, Dickerson connected on a walk-off single with bases-loaded in the bottom of the 11th inning, giving the Bears an 8-7 victory. It was his third walk-off hit of 2009 and second game-winning swing in eight days (ninth-inning, two-run single at Kansas last Friday). The McGregor, Texas native also produced multiple-hit contests in Baylor’s other four games. Dickerson ended the week by going 4-for-4 with a double, home run, four runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base in the nightcap of the doubleheader against the Tigers. On the week, he hit safely in each of his final five at-bats and in 14 consecutive Big 12 contests.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Chad Bettis, Texas Tech, RHP, So., 6-0, 185, Lubbock, Texas/Monterey

Bettis turned in a career day in the series finale at No. 11 Oklahoma on Sunday. He helped the Red Raiders avoid the series sweep by turning in his first career complete game and firing 154 pitches in the process. Bettis held OU, the Big 12’s leading offense, to season lows in runs (1) and hits (4). The Lubbock, Texas hurler tossed eight shutout innings before allowing his lone run in the bottom of the ninth after he had thrown 130 pitches. Bettis fanned a career-high nine batters and walked four while facing 35 batters. In Big 12 action, he has been a part of all seven Tech wins and improved to 3-0 in league play with four saves.
